Tractebel strengthens its position in offshore wind engineering with the acquisition of Overdick.
Tractebel announces the acquisition of Overdick, through its subsidiary Lahmeyer International. Overdick is a company specialised in offshore engineering, based in Hamburg, Germany. This acquisition is a perfect strategic fit for Tractebel, one of the world’s largest engineering and consultancy companies and part of ENGIE, to grow in the field of offshore wind and to reinforce its position as a leading consulting and engineering company in the energy transition.
Founded in 2000, Overdick is one of the leading specialists in modern offshore engineering and design, maintenance and inspection services. The company offers a wide range of services within the areas of offshore wind, offshore oil and gas, naval architecture, marine operations, platform removals and salvage. Tractebel will benefit from Overdick’s deep know-how in detailed design, construction, transportation and installation of wind turbine and offshore high voltage substation (OHVS) foundations.
The design of the Heavy Lift Jack-Up Vessel INNOVATION, the execution of the overall design of most of the HVDC platforms in the German North Sea, and the design of the MOAB® self-installing platforms for worldwide wind farms and oil & gas production belong to the numerous projects references of Overdick. The engineering and site supervision of the COSTA CONCORDIA wreck removal project off the coast of Giglio in Italy was also entrusted to the innovative and experienced Overdick engineers.
As stressed by Olivier Biancarelli, CEO of Tractebel, “With the acquisition of Overdick as a strong and experienced company in detailed engineering, Tractebel will participate in the growing offshore wind market, which will reach an installed capacity of more than 100 GW in 2030.” Lahmeyer CEO Martin Seeger complemented: “With Overdick, we have brought a traditional company with a high reputation into our company, with which we will continue to grow in the coming years.”
Overdick’s Managing Director Andreas Rosponi: “We have intensively worked to realize this M&A project. Bringing in an independent offshore engineering firm like Overdick will be a great step forward for the growth potential of Tractebel and will offer to the clients a wider portfolio of services. The pool of skills has increased manifolds overnight and we are all looking forward to put it to work together.”
The signature of the share purchase agreement for the acquisition was celebrated last Friday. The closing of the transaction will take place end of September 2018 following customary closing conditions and regular approvals.
