Wind Farms for the North Sea

Foundation Design by OVERDICK

Project development for the second expansion stage of the Trianel Windpark Borkum is currently underway. Led by the TRIANEL Windkraftwerk Borkum II joint venture, consisting of EWE AG from Oldenburg and Stadtwerke-Kooperation Trianel from Aachen, the capacity of the park is to be increased by 200MW. OVERDICK has been a part of this project since the beginning of 2016 and is currently working on the foundation design of the new wind turbines.

The Trianel Windpark Borkum (TWB) is situated approximately 45 kilometres northwest of the island of Borkum. The first phase of construction resulted in 40 wind turbines with a power capacity of 200MW. Led by Trianel GmbH, 33 public utilities and regional energy providers are involved in the project.

Construction for the first entirely municipal offshore wind farm was started in September 2011 with the deployment of the foundation structures and the installation of the tripods. Final assembly of the 40 AREVA Wind M5000-116 wind turbines began in July 2013. All wind turbines were constructed within 11 months.

The Trianel wind farm was wholly connected to the power grid in mid-July 2015 and put into full operation on September 1 2015.
